Biography
High School:
Nelson, signed to play basketball at NM State in the summer
of 2012. She completed her senior season at West Aurora High School as the
program's all-time three-point shot leader. She also broke the single-season
three-point baskets made mark at the school after sinking 60 long-range shots
in 2012. The guard averaged 12.2 points, 3.4 assists and 2.5 steals per game
for the Blackhawks last season.
A two-time All-DuPage Valley Conference selection in her
final two years, Nelson earned team Most Valuable Player Honors in 2012 after
leading the Blackhawks to a third-place conference finish this spring. Nelson
ended her career with 785 career points under the direction of head coach
Connie Siljendahl.
Nelson was also a two-time all-tournament selection at
the Wheaton North Christmas Tournament and the Team Warhawk Tourney in each of
the past two seasons. Additionally, she earned Player of the Week honors from
the Daily Herald and the Walter
Payton Roundhouse. In the off-season Nelson was a member of the Illinois
Hustle.
Personal:
She is the daughter of Mike Nelson and Melissa Harrington
and will pursue a degree in criminal justice. Nelson lists her uncle Rick
Nelson as a mentor, playing a prominent role in her development on the
basketball court. She built her hoop skills while attending the Nelson
Fundamental Basketball Camps in the greater Chicagoland area.
