Biography

2005-06: Russell-Nava enjoyed a breakout junior season in 2005-06, averaging 8.2 points per game despite coming off the bench in 25 of 26 contests and emerging as one of the premier three-point shooting threats in the WAC. She made 54 of 169 attempts from distance, tying for 10th on the NMSU single-season record list in three-point field goals and ranking seventh in attempts. Russell-Nava also moved into seventh place on the school career lists in each of those categories. She earned the Xbox Live WAC Player of the Week Award for January 16 after leading the Aggies to a 72-69 double overtime win at Hawai’i two nights before. In that game, Russell-Nava scored 17 points and grabbed a career-high five rebounds with 11 of the points coming after the end of regulation. In three games against WAC champions Louisiana Tech, Russell-Nava made her presence felt by averaging 17.33 points per game with 11 three-pointers, including a career-high 23 points in Ruston, La. on February 23. In a 56-55 win at Idaho on February 25, she dished out a career-best eight assists.

 

2004-05: Russell-Nava came off the bench in all 28 contests for the Aggies in 2004-05 to average 5.9 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. She was the team’s fourth-leading scorer and ranked second in assists to Monique Bribiescas. New Mexico State’s top three-point threat, Russell-Nava led the squad with 40 made three-pointers and a .342 shooting percentage from beyond the arc. Against New Orleans on January 15, Russell-Nava made six of seven shots from distance and finished with a career-high 20 points to help lead the Aggies to a 73-60 win over the Privateers. The six three-pointers tied her for sixth on the all-time NMSU single-game list while her .857 percentage tied her for fourth on the single-game list in that category.

 

Butler County CC: Russell-Nava, a 5-8 sophomore guard, played one year at Butler County Community College in El Dorado, Kan.  She averaged 14 points as BCCC's point guard during her freshman year while earning Jayhawk Conference honorable mention honors.  She played for first year coach Earl Diddle at BCCC, one of head coach Darin Spence's former teams. Spence coached from 1988-1993 at BCCC.

 

High School: Russell-Nava was a 2003 graduate of Arch Bishop Mitty High School in San Jose, Calif.  She averaged 18 points per game as a senior, earning all-state, all-district and all-conference honors.

 

Personal: Cecilia Russell-Nava was born April 4, 1985, in Santa Cruz, Calif. And is the daughter of Tom Russell and Elizabeth Nava. She is pursuing a degree in psychology.
