Biography

2006-07: Bribiescas played in all 31 games for the Aggies, making 13 starts at point guard. She averaged 7.0 points per game and dished out a team-high 2.97 assists per game, good for eighth in the conference. Her .390 3-point shooting percentage was the second best mark in the WAC and she had 28 steals on the season. On Dec. 16 at Wichita State, Bribiescas made a half-court shot as the buzzer sounded to give the Aggies a 72-69 victory.  In a 59-48 win at San Jose State on Jan. 6, she had a season-high 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field and made all five of her free-throw attempts. Bribiescas dished out a season best seven assists twice on the year. The first was on Nov. 25 at Utah Valley State where she added 12 points and a season-high four 3-pointers and her second seven assist game came on Jan. 13 vs. Idaho. Bribiescas recorded nine double-digit scoring games on the year including two in the WAC Championships. In the semifinals of the conference tournament against Nevada, she scored 12 points thanks to 3-of-5 shooting from behind the arc to help NMSU advance to the finals. Bribiescas enters her senior season with 263 career assists, just 24 away from moving into 10th place on the Aggies career record list.

 

2005-06: Bribiescas played in all 30 games for the Aggies, making 29 starts at point guard. She averaged 6.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and a team-high 3.3 assists per game. Bribiescas lifted the Aggies to a 50-47 win over WAC rival San Jose State at the Pan American Center on January 28 by tying the game with a layup with one minute left and sinking the game-winning three-pointer with 12 seconds to play. In the WAC semifinal win over Boise State on March 10, she scored a career-high 23 points thanks to 6-for-6 foul shooting and a 5-for-9 showing from beyond the arc. The next day in the WAC Championship game against top-seeded and 16th-ranked Louisiana Tech, Bribiescas scored 11 points and pulled down nine rebounds, a career high. Against 18th-ranked I-25 rivals New Mexico on December 21 at the Pan American Center, Bribiescas tallied 11 points, eight assists and six rebounds to help push NMSU into triple overtime against the heavily favored Lobos.

 

2004-05: Bribiescas started all 27 games she played in as a freshman and led the Aggies in total minutes played with 877. She finished second on the team with 9.6 points per game (tops among returnees) while leading the team with 72 assists (2.7 per game). She also chipped in 2.9 rebounds per game. Her 33 steals in 2004-05 led all returning players while her 10 blocked shots ranked her fourth on the team and third among returnees. The second-best returning free throw shooter on the team at 74 percent (54-73), Bribiescas also ranked second on the squad in three-point shooting with 38 makes and a .317 field goal percentage from beyond the arc. Bribiescas made an immediate impact on the Aggies as she exploded for 19 points and four rebounds in her first career game on November 20 against I-25 rivals New Mexico. On January 3 against 22nd-ranked Houston, Bribiescas led NMSU to its first win over a Top 25 team in school history by tallying 18 points and four assists. Against Arkansas-Little Rock on February 26, she shrugged off a 1-for-6 shooting night to post a career-high six assists, helping the Aggies to a 70-60 win in their home finale.

 

High School: Bribiescas is a 2004 graduate of Desert Vista High School in Phoenix, Ariz., where her father, Henry Bribiescas, coached her. She helped DVHS to three-consecutive state tournament appearances, including an appearance in the 2002 and 2004 state championship games. Bribiescas was listed as one of the Top-30 point guards in the nation in the All-Star Girls Report. During her senior year, Bribiescas averaged 16 points and seven assists and was named to the first team All-East Valley, all-region and all-state teams.  She was also named a 2002 Basketball Congress International All-American. Bribiescas holds the all-time career assist record for high school girls' basketball in the state of Arizona.

Personal: Monique Bribiescas was born September 13, 1985, in Mesa, Ariz., and is the daughter of Monica Magana and Henry Bribiescas. She is majoring in Criminal Justice.
