2009 (Sophomore): As a sophomore, Nichols played in 13 matches. She also started in six contests including the season opener at UTEP (Aug. 21). Nichols recorded one shot and one shot on goal in 2009 in the 2-1 overtime win over Hawai’i (Oct. 18). She also drew a foul in the penalty box that led to the game-winning goal for the Aggies.
Prior to NM State: Nichols, a forward from North Idaho College, capped off her junior college career with a first team National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-America selection. In 2008, Nichols led the Cardinals to the program’s first national tournament appearance en route to a third-place finish. She was named to the NJCAA All-Tournament Team. As a freshman, Nichols scored 14 goals and supplied six assists and was named the team’s offensive player of the year and most valuable player. Additionally, Nichols played on the women’s basketball team for two seasons at North Idaho. She averaged 9.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.9 assists per game in 2008-09.
High School/Club: A 2007 graduate of Lakeland High School in Post Falls, Idaho, Nichols earned four letters in soccer. She paced the Hawks to a fifth-place state finish as a senior and a second-place finish as a junior. The highly decorated forward earned All-North Idaho honors, team offensive player of the year and first team All-Inland Empire League honors as both a junior and senior. Nichols was also named the team’s most valuable player as a senior.
Personal: She is the daughter of Terry and Tana Nichols and was born in Spokane Valley, Wash. Nicholas is majoring in outdoor recreation.
