2005 (JUNIOR): Borden played in all 27 matches last season and started on 24 occasions at the outside hitter position. In her first season in the Western Athletic Conference, Borden was named a second team All-WAC selection as she led the Aggies in kills with 345 and kills per game (3.52). Borden was also a force defensively as the former middle blocker finished third on the team in total blocks with 76. Borden finished the season with double-digit kills in 23 of the Aggies' 27 matches, including 19 of the last 20 matches of the year. She hit the 15-kill plateau seven times and hit .300 or better on five occasions. Defensively Borden recorded three or more total blocks in 14 matches and three or more digs in six matches. Borden led the Aggies in kills 11 times in 2005 and also made a mark on the Aggie record books. She currently ranks ninth all-time on the career kills per game list (2.84), ninth in career hitting percentage (.256), seventh in career block assists (243) and fifth in career blocks per game (1.12). In the Aggies' season opener against
New Mexico (8/29) Borden helped NMSU to a three-game sweep of its I-25 rival as she tallied 11 kills and hit .474. At the 2005 Hilton Las Cruces Classic, Borden averaged 10.5 kills, 3.5 digs and three blocks in two wins over Texas-Pan American (9/2) and
Cincinnati (9/3). Against the Bearcats, Borden notched 11 kills and four total blocks as NMSU won the tournament title for the second straight season. A week later, Borden was named to the all-tournament team at the UTEP Invitational as she averaged 7.5 kills and two blocks in wins over
Troy State (9/10) and I-10 rival UTEP (9/10). In the championship game versus the Miners, Borden registered 16 kills and three total blocks in a three-game sweep. Borden made a quick impression on her new conference brethren last season as she recorded 10 or more kills in the first nine WAC matches of her career. In the WAC opener at
Nevada (9/24), Borden scored 17 kills while hitting .243. In her first match against nationally ranked
Hawai'i (10/1), Borden helped NMSU to a near upset of the No. 11 Rainbow Wahine as she finished with 16 kills and one block assist. Borden was named the WAC Player of the Week Oct. 10 after averaging 16.5 kills and three total blocks in wins over UTEP (10/5) and Louisiana Tech (10/8). In her second meeting of the season with the Miners, Borden led the Aggies to a three-game sweep as she nailed 19 kills while hitting .500. She was also a force on the defensive end of the court as she finished with four total blocks and three digs. After a brief drop from the 10-kill mark against Boise State (10/22) where she recorded nine in a three-game sweep, Borden jumped right back above as she notched 18 kills, two digs and two total blocks at Idaho (10/29). On Nov. 3 against
Nevada, Borden tallied six total blocks for the second time last season to go along with 11 kills in a four-game win over the Wolf Pack. Four days later, Borden led the Aggies to a 3-1 win at
New Mexico as she recorded 14 kills, four total blocks and two digs. In her first trip to
Hawai'i, Borden again led the Aggies to a near upset of the Rainbow Wahine as she finished the match with a career-high 21 kills and three total blocks. At her first Western Athletic Conference Championships, Borden averaged 11 kills, 3.5 total blocks and 2.5 digs through two matches. Against
San Jose State (11/24) in the quarterfinals, Borden tallied 11 kills, two digs and two total blocks in a 3-1 win over the Spartans. In a five-game semifinals loss to
Utah State, Borden played her part as she finished with 11 kills, three digs and four total blocks.
2004 (SOPHOMORE): In 2004 Borden led the Aggies and the Sun Belt Conference in total blocks (180) and blocks per game (1.61). Her 1.61 blocks per game ranked her 15th nationally among all NCAA Division I players. Along with her defensive play up front, Borden was also a force offensively, finishing second on the team in kills (302) and kills per game (2.70). Her 168 block assists in 2004 set a program single-season record while she also ranks second on the program's single-season blocks and blocks per game lists. Her team-high .342 hitting percentage in 2004 ranks fourth on the Aggies' single-season hitting percentage list. Last season, Borden received a handful of individual accolades, including first team All-Sun Belt and Sun Belt All-Tournament team honors. In the opening round of the Aeropostale Sun Belt Conference Volleyball Championships against North Texas, Borden led the Aggie defense with a career-high 13 total blocks. In the semifinals and finals against New Orleans and Western Kentucky, Borden registered nine and 10 kills respectively while adding nine total blocks in each match. On Oct. 18, she was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week after leading the team to back-to-back sweeps over Middle Tennessee (10/15) and Western Kentucky (10/17). Along with conference honors, Borden was also named the Tournament MVP at the 2004 Idaho State Classic and named to the All-Tournament team at the 2004 Hilton Las Cruces Classic. Borden registered a career high with 14 kills and hit .321 in a five-game victory at Arkansas-Little Rock (10/10). A week later, Borden tallied 10 kills and seven total blocks in a three-game sweep of Western Kentucky (10/17). On Halloween, Borden had another great match as she hit a career-high .846 with 11 kills and six total blocks in a sweep at Denver.
2003 (FRESHMAN): Borden appeared in 32 games and 17 matches to lead all Aggie freshmen in 2003. She recorded 41 kills, 14 blocks, nine digs and three service aces while hitting .289. She recorded a season-high nine kills against Cincinnati on 9/6 and hit .583 against Liberty on 9/20. She recorded six kills, two service aces and a season-high six blocks in the Aggies' 3-1 win over No. 11 UC-Santa Barbara.
HIGH SCHOOL: Borden is a 2003 graduate of Gadsden High School in Anthony, N.M. Borden received all-district honors for three years, and she was the MVP for her volleyball team for three years. Borden was named to the South All-Star volleyball team in 2002-03. Borden also played basketball for Gadsden where she was part of the 2001 District Championship team, and the 2002-03 South All-Star team.
PERSONAL: Alice Elizabeth Borden was born in Dallas, Texas, and is the daughter of Frank Borden and Veronica Castellanos. She is majoring in International Business/Finance at New Mexico State.
