2006 ACADEMIC ALL-WAC TEAM

 

2006 (SOPHOMORE):  As the backup setter, Angelle Guerre made an appearance in 22 matches and 41 games in 2006.  Guerre was second on the team in assists with 78 while she averaged 1.90 assists per game.  She recorded 14 digs and six kills.  Guerre was very productive when she posted at least one assists in all but one match last year.  She began the season on a high note with a career-high performance tallying two kills along with a season-high five assists against Akron (9/9) in the finale of the Hilton Las Cruces Classic.  At the Jackrabbit Invitational in Brookings, S.D., the following week, Guerre had a career-high 10 assists against Lamar (9/15) in only two games.  She also set a season-high with three digs.  In her first WAC match of the year, Guerre was a factor with six assists versus Boise State (9/23).  She also had six assists along with a block against Northern Arizona (10/10).  Guerre’s had a career-high seven assists in a conference match at Fresno State (10/19).  Against Louisiana Tech (11/8), Guerre continued her solid play with five assists and a pair of digs in two games.  In the regular season finale versus San Jose State (11/18), she posted four assists in only the second match the Aggies played in the Pan American Center last season.  Guerre played in the quarterfinals and semifinals matches of the WAC Tournament in Reno, Nev., against Boise State (11/22) and Idaho (11/23).  Versus the Vandals, Guerre collected four assists and two digs as she played in all three games in the sweep. 

 

2005 (FRESHMAN):  In her first season with the Aggies, Guerre added much needed depth to the setter position as she played in 15 matches and 28 games.  Guerre finished her first collegiate season with 35 assists, nine digs and two kills.  She ended the year with at least one assist in 10 of 15 matches and had two or more assists on seven occasions.  Guerre posted at least one dig in seven matches, including the last three she played in.  In the first round of the Hilton Las Cruces Classic against Texas-Pan American (9/2), Guerre came off the bench to post career highs with eight assists and three digs in a sweep of the Broncos.  In the opening round of the UTEP Invitational against Troy (9/10), Guerre added two assists, one kill and one block.  At Louisiana Tech (10/8), Guerre again added to the offense as she notched four assists in a sweep of the Lady Techsters.  In back-to-back wins over San Jose State (11/5) and Louisiana Tech (11/10), Guerre averaged 6.5 assists in just five total games.  Against the Spartans, Guerre came off the bench to tally five assists and one block assist in a 3-1 win.  In a rematch with the Techsters, Guerre recorded eight assists and one dig in a three-game sweep.

 

HIGH SCHOOL:  Guerre came to New Mexico State after playing high school volleyball at Maydee Creek High School in Houston, Texas for head coach Lori McLaughlin.  She also played club volleyball for head coach Scott Mayhew and the Willowbrook Select 17 team in Houston.  As a senior, Guerre led the team in assists with 332, and collected 172 kills, 49 total blocks and 126 digs.  Guerre was a three-year letterwinner for the Rams and she earned first team All-District 19-5A and Maydee High Most Valuable Player honors as a senior in 2004.  She was also named to the all-tournament team at the 2004 Junior Olympic Nationals.  As a freshman and sophomore, Guerre was named second team All-District 19-5A. Along with her successes on the court, Guerre was a standout in the classroom throughout her high school career. She was named to the Academic All-District 19-5A team from 2002 to 2004. A National Honor Society member, Guerre has received numerous awards, including two Golden Ram Awards and the Award for Excellence in Geometry while graduating with a cumulative grade-point-average of 4.20.

 

PERSONAL:  Angelle Faye Guerre was born in Lafayette, La., and is the daughter of Kevin and Lisa Guerre.  Her two older sisters also played collegiate volleyball.  Danielle played at Christian Brother's University while Gabby played for Kansas State.  Guerre is majoring in finance.
