Biography

2006 (JUNIOR):  Anna Callis became a fixture in New Mexico State starting lineup as an outside hitter in 2006.  Callis started 25 matches and appeared in all 37.  She recorded 262 kills, which ranked fourth on the team, 2.08 kills per game with a .275 hitting percentage.  Defensively, Callis made a contribution with 96 blocks and 0.76 blocks per game, marks that were the third best on the squad.  In addition, she supplied 60 assists, which was the most of any non-setter.  Callis didn’t waste anytime making an impact in 2006 when she posted 11 kills and three blocks in the second match of the season a four-game win against Sacramento State (8/25) in the UTEP/Sun Bowl Invitational.  She followed that performance with 12 kills, a .429 hitting percentage, five assists and a pair of blocks in a five-game victory over Texas Tech (8/26) on the final day of the Miner tournament.  Callis’ best performance of the Hilton Las Cruces Classic came in a sweep against Akron (9/9) in the tournament finale as she had a .727 hitting percentage, eight kills and five blocks.  She also had a solid showing versus San Diego (9/8) with nine kills and four blocks guiding the Aggies to a five-game win.  In the first WAC match of the year against Idaho (9/21), Callis provided 10 kills, which tied for a match high, a .533 hitting percentage and four blocks.  Callis had a career-high 15 kills in the Aggies first loss of the season at Nevada (9/30).  At Louisiana Tech (10/6), Callis had a career-high 13 assists in four-game win.  In the upset of No. 11 Hawai’i (10/13) that broke the Rainbow Wahine’s 114-conference match win streak, Callis 14 kills, which was second-best on the team, a .308 hitting percentage and five blocks.  She also tallied a match-high 14 kills and four blocks against Utah State (10/28).  Callis also recorded a .875 hitting percentage versus the navy-clad Aggies, which ranks fourth on NMSU’s single-match list for hitting percentage in three-games.  At Idaho (11/4), Callis recorded her final double-figures kill performance when she had 10 kills and four blocks in a sweep of the Vandals.  In all, Callis had seven double-digit kill performances in the 2006 season.  Callis had a career-high six blocks in the regular season finale against San Jose State (11/18).  Conference competition brought out the best in Callis, each of her career highs were set against WAC opponents.  In the quarterfinal match of the WAC Tournament in Reno, Nevada, Callis had a career-high four digs against Boise State (11/22).  Two days later in the championship match versus No. 12 Hawai’i, Callis posted a team-high .467 hitting percentage along with nine kills.  In her first NCAA Tournament match, Callis was productive with eight kills with a .300 hitting percentage at Colorado (11/30). 

 

2005 (SOPHOMORE):  In her second season with the Aggies, Callis added depth to a powerful Aggie offense as she played in 19 matches and made one start at the outside hitter position.  Callis finished the season with 21 kills, nine total blocks and six digs.  She had at least one kill in 10 of her 19 matches and four multiple kill matches.  In the first match of the Hilton Las Cruces Classic against Troy (9/10), Callis came off the bench to add four kills while hitting .571 without an error.  At Louisiana Tech (10/8), Callis again added to the offense as she recorded three kills in the Aggies three-game sweep over the Lady Techsters.  Callis' best match of her career came at Boise State (10/29) as she posted career highs with five kills, four digs and four total blocks as the Aggies came away victorious in four games.  Against Louisiana Tech (11/10), Callis again took it to the Techsters as she posted three kills in another NMSU sweep.

 

2004 (FRESHMAN):  In her first season with the Aggies, Callis played in 16 matches and 25 games as a reserve middle hitter.  She finished the season with nine kills, four digs and one total block.  Callis registered at least one kill in eight of her 16 appearances, including a career-high two kills in a three-game sweep of Texas-Pan American (10/22).  She also recorded a career-high two digs in a sweep of South Alabama in the Aggies' regular season finale.

 

HIGH SCHOOL:  Callis is a 2004 graduate of Calallen High School in Corpus Christi, Texas and played for head coach Lupe Cordona.  PrepVB.com named Callis one of the top-25 players in the state of Texas.  Callis became the first player in school history to earn three all-tournament teams honors in a single-season (Frauline, CCISD, San Marcos).  Callis was the 30-4A district most valuable player in 2003 and led Calallen to the 4A state championship match in 2002.  She finished 2003 with 602 kills and 98 blocks.

 

PERSONAL: Anna M. Callis was born in Corpus Christi, Texas and is the daughter of Jim and Sandy Callis. She is majoring in Family and Child Sciences.
