2010 (RED SHIRT JUNIOR): Rodgers sat out for the 2010 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
2009 (JUNIOR): Rodgers transferred to Florida and saw
action in 91 sets of 29 matches as a junior with the Gators. She was second on
the team in assists per set, averaging 5.26 as one of two primary setters in
the team's 6-2 offensive scheme for the majority of the season. Rodgers was
also second on Florida's team with 23 aces in 2009. She recorded five double-doubles and posted
20 or more assists on 13 occasions. In just her third match in a Florida
uniform, Rodgers served the match-clinching service ace in a thrilling five-set
win against Florida State (8/31). She charted her fifth double-double of the
year with 21 assists and 11 digs against Tennessee (11/20). Rodgers dished out
18 assists and came up with five digs against No. 19 LSU (11/13). She sat out
the team's match against Auburn after experiencing back spasms in warm-ups
(11/8) after she recorded a squad-best 19 assists versus Georgia (11/6), a match
that head coach Mary Wise called one of Rodgers' finest setting matches since
transferring to Florida. She dished out 14 assists and recorded six digs
against Mississippi State (11/1) after she had a match-high 21 assists in a
sweep of Ole Miss (10/25) Rodgers served up a career-high four aces, including
three in a row during the second set, against Arkansas (10/23). Rodgers also
dished out 24 assists at Georgia (10/18) and had a match-high 22 assists in
Florida's three-set sweep at Auburn (10/16) Rodgers posted a Florida-high 28
assists in a four-set win at South Carolina (10/7) before she charted her
fourth double-double with a then-Florida-high 25 assists to complement 10 digs
against No. 15 Kentucky (10/2). Rodgers turned in a squad-best 20 assists in a road
sweep of Arkansas (9/20) after she charted her third double-double of the
season with 21 assists and 13 digs against Ole Miss (9/18). Rodgers posted a
season-high 24 assists against Pacific (9/5) and handed out a squad-best 21 assists in her
Florida debut.
2008 (SOPHOMORE):
Rodgers played in 34 sets for NM State and tallied 86 assists on a team
that had three setters on the roster. She averaged 2.53 assists per set and
marked 20 digs and four service aces on the year. She marked a season-high 14 assists at No. 7
Stanford (9/11) as the Aggies fell in straight sets. She picked up 13 assists against Utah (9/7)
and Virginia Commonwealth University (11/27).
Rodgers also tallied nine assists against No. 4 Texas (9/6) and nine
more against Florida Gulf Coast (9/4).
2007 (FRESHMAN): Rodgers made an immediate impact on the
team as a freshman. She was one of two
setters used in head coach Mike Jordan's 6-2 offense. As a freshman, Rodgers played in all 32 matches
and was second on the team in assists with 641, while she averaged 6.05 per
game. In conference matches, she was
10th in the league in assists as she put up 6.69 assists per game. Rodgers tallied at least 20 assists in 15
matches and had double-digit assists in 28 matches. Her first 20-plus match was against
Texas Southern (8/26) when she led NM
State to a 3-0 victory and posted 21, while she also had five service aces that
day, a season-high. In the Ameritas
Invitational hosted by Nebraska, Rodgers tallied 40 assists in an exciting 3-2
win over Louisville (9/7) to record a season and career high. Against Utah State (9/20), she had 32 assists and put up 36
assists in a 3-1 victory over Idaho (9/29), which were the most for her in a
four-game match during the 2007 season.
The most assists Rodgers tallied in a three-game match were 27 against
San Jose State (10/20). She finished the season with a 21 assist
performance in the semi-finals of the WAC Tournament versus San Jose State (11/16), a 25-assist performance in the WAC
Tournament Finals against Hawai'i (11/17) and a 29-assist performance in the
first round of the NCAA Tournament versus LSU (11/30).
HIGH SCHOOL: Rodgers came to New Mexico State after
leading Iowa City High School to a state championship as a senior. Rodgers, a setter, was a two-time all-state
and three-time All-Mississippi Valley Conference selection for the Little
Hawks. She also collected player of the
year honors in 2006. As a junior and a
senior, Rodgers guided Iowa City to conference titles and a combined record of
86-2 in that span. In addition to her
career with the Little Hawks, she played in the USA volleyball nationals from
1999-07. The squad finished in
third-place in 2003 and Rodgers was named to the all-tournament team.
PERSONAL: Brynja Michelle Rodgers is the daughter of
David and Kyla Rogders. She is majoring
in biochemistry.
