Ben Wallis

Ben Wallis was elevated to associate head coach after the 2016 campaign after spending the last four seasons as an assistant coach. His primary responsibilities include scouting and defensive games plans, while also assisting with recruiting, camps and on-court coaching.

Wallis helped coach NM State to a 21-8 overall record and a 12-2 record against league opponents in 2017. The associate head coach helped guide the Aggies to their third-straight WAC regular season title. Following the conclusion of the regular season, five players received all-conference awards including Kassandra Tohm as the WAC Player of the Year and Ariadnne Sierra as the WAC Libero of the Year.

With guidance from Wallis, New Mexico State posted a 24-7 overall record and a 13-1 record in conference play in 2016. He helped coach the team to their second-straight Western Athletic Conference Regular Season title. Under his leadership, five players were given All-WAC honors with Ariadnne Sierra winning WAC Libero of the Year.

Wallis played a crucial role in helping the 2015 Aggies to a 28-6 record and their seventh NCAA Tournament appearance. He helped NM State become only the fourth team in WAC history to finish conference play undefeated with a conference record of 14-0 and winning their first WAC Regular Season and Tournament titles since 2013.

Wallis, who is now in his second stint with NM State, brings more than a decade of coaching experience with him to the program.  He was a volunteer assistant under head coach Mike Jordan from 2006-08.

Wallis helped the team to a 22-11 overall record during the 2013 season and a 14-2 conference record. During the season, Wallis assisted in bringing the Aggies to their second Western Athletic Conference title since 2005, when the team joined the conference.

Prior to returning to Las Cruces in 2013, Wallis served as an assistant at the University of New Mexico under Jeff Nelson. Before joining UNM, he was the head coach for Cleveland High School in Albuquerque from 2009 to 2011. While there, he led his team to the state final in just his second year of the program’s existence.  Wallis also gained experience as a varsity assistant coach at El Paso’s Franklin High School, Rio Rancho High School and as a head coach at Gadsden High School in Anthony, N.M.

Wallis, and his wife, Leah, who is a former NM State volleyball player, have two sons, Benjamin Kristopher Wallis II and Beau William Wallis
