Biography

2008 (JUNIOR):  Altermatt had another outstanding season as she was named a first team all-WAC selection after playing in 35 matches and posting five double-doubles.  Altermatt was third on the team in kills with 283 on the season, averaging 2.42 per set.  She was second on the team in digs, behind all-American Kystal Torres.  Altermatt ended the season with 315 digs, averaging 2.69 per set.  She was also tied for second in services aces in 2008 tallying 29, while she posted the most service attempts with 509 for a .921 serving percentage.  Altermatt posted double-digit kills in eight matches with her season-high of 13 kills coming in a three-set match versus Nevada (9/13) and in a four-set match against Boise State (10/18).  She helped the team defensively as she posted at least 10 digs in 12 matches.  Altermatt's season-high of 18 digs against Louisiana Tech (10/30) was also a career-high.  She showed what she could do defensively in the first tournament of the year when she marked 12 digs against No. 11 Oregon and followed that with a 17 dig performance against North Carolina.  Altermatt had her first double-double of the year when she led the Aggies to a five-set victory over Houston in the NM State Tournament with 12 kills and 10 digs.  In the Stanford Tournament, Altermatt posted 11 kills and 13 digs to help the Aggies beat UC-Santa Barbara (9/13)  in three sets.  She opened up conference play with 10 digs against Fresno State (9/18) and 13 kills and eight digs versus Nevada (9/20), both of which were sweeps.  She continued to be a defensive presence as she tallied 15 digs at Idaho (9/25), while adding two service aces.  On a weekend-conference road trip, Altermatt posted 10 kills at Nevada (11/6) and 10 kills at Fresno State (11/8), while adding 15 digs against the Bulldogs.  She posted another double-double in the final match of the conference-regular season as she tallied 10 kills and 10 digs with one service ace versus San Jose State (11/15).  She had another great performace as NM State headed north to Albuquerque.  There she marked 11 kills and 10 digs to lead the Aggies to victory over their in-state rivals.  Altermatt rounded out the season with 12 kills against California in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

2007 (SOPHOMORE):
  Altermatt had a stellar sophomore season as she played in 31 matches for the Aggies and earned second team all-WAC honors.  She was third on the team in kills with 356 on the year and averaged 3.42 per game.  The 31 service aces she posted was second best for NMSU in 2007.  Altematt was also huge on defense as she came up with 301 digs (2.89/g), good enough for third on the team. She was named WAC Player of the week on Monday, September 17 for her great play during the week of September 10-16. Altermatt had a career night against Fresno State (9/13) to help the Aggies to a sweep in a conference opener. She returned to her home state and dominated, setting new career highs for herself in kills with 21 and hitting percentage finishing the night with a .594 hitting percentage. Game one saw Altermatt come out swinging as she batted down nine kills and hit .750 on twelve attacks.  The 21 kills against the Bulldogs were the most kills in a three-game match in 2007, while it was also the third most for an Aggie all-time. Altermatt continued her stellar conference play against Nevada on Saturday, Sept.15, with 16 kills and 13 digs for her third double-double of the year. The sophomore ended the week hitting .397 with 43 kills and 30 digs. She averaged 4.78 kills per game that week.  Altermatt tallied double-digit kills in 18 matches and at least 20 kills in four matches, including her 20 kill performance against No. 13 Hawai'i (9/22).  The 12 double-doubles she finished the year with was second most on the team.  Her first double-double came when she had 15 kills and 16 digs in a 3-1 win over UC Davis (8/25) in the NAU Invitational.  In the final match of the NAU Invitational versus Northern Arizona (8/25) she hit .348 and came up with 12 kills to help the Aggies to a tournament trophy.  She played exceptional in conference play and finished sixth in kills with 224 kills (4.00/g) in conference matches.  She posted her ninth double-double of the season against Nevada (10/18) with 20 kills and 11 digs.  At Idaho (11/3), she helped the Aggies to win No. 22 with her 10 kills and 12 digs.  Altermatt showed signs of dominance at La. Tech (11/8) when she had 20 killls, 11 digs and a .405 hitting percentage.  She followed that performance with another 16 kills against Fresno State (11/11), when she hit .500 to lead the Aggies to a 3-0 victory.

2006 (FRESHMAN):  As a true freshman, Krista Altermatt played in 25 matches as an outside hitter for the Aggies.  She posted 31 kills, two assists and two service aces in 40 games.  On the defensive side, Altermatt supplied 28 digs and five blocks.  Her best play of the season was at the WAC Tournament when she set career-highs for kills, digs and blocks.  Altermatt tallied six kills and seven digs against No. 12 Hawai'i in the finals of the WAC Tournament (11/24).  In the quarterfinal game versus Boise State (11/22), she also recorded seven digs.  Altermatt posted a pair of blocks against Idaho in the semifinal match of the tournament (11/23).  Altermatt made her Aggie debut against Sacramento State (8/25).  

HIGH SCHOOL:  Altermatt came to New Mexico State after graduating from Union Mine High School in El Dorado Hills, Calif.  A four-year letter winner in volleyball, Altermatt led the Diamondbacks to three straight Sierra Valley Conference titles from 2003 to 2005.  In four seasons of high school volleyball, Altermatt led her high school team to a combined record of 47-3, including back-to-back undefeated seasons in 2003 and 2004.  She was named first team All-Sierra Valley Conference and academic all-conference as a junior and senior.  Altermatt was also named to the all-tournament team at the High Sierra Tournament in Reno, Nev.  As a freshman, Altermatt helped the Diamondbacks to a 10-2 record and a runner-up finish in the conference. A year later, Altermatt directed Union Mine to a perfect 12-0 record and the league championship while collecting honorable mention all-conference honors.  As a junior, Altermatt and the Diamondbacks repeated as league champions, going 12-0 for the second straight year. As a senior, Altermatt led her team to a 13-1 overall record and another league title.

PERSONAL: 
Altermatt was born in Redding, Calif., and is the daughter of James and Michele Bailey.  Her father is a graduate of Sacramento State. She is majoring in athletic training/physical therapy.
