New Mexico State University Athletics

2006 (FRESHMAN):  Nicole Holguin made an appearance in five matches as a true freshman.  The defensive specialist recorded a dig against Akron (9/9) and Northern Arizona (10/10).  Holguin’s Aggie debut was against Florida A&M (9/1).  She also played in a game versus Idaho (11/23) in the semifinals of the WAC Tournament. 

HIGH SCHOOL:  Holguin joined the Aggies after graduating from Gadsden High School in Anthony N.M.  A two-year letterwinner in both volleyball and basketball, Holguin starred as an outside hitter and defensive specialist for current NMSU volunteer assistant coach Ben Wallis.  As a senior, Holguin tallied 186 kills, 314 digs, 30 service aces and 15 total blocks while leading the Panthers to a 12-12 overall record and the regular season district title.  Holguin and Gadsden finished third in the district tournament and were ranked top-8 in the state of New Mexico.  Holguin was named honorable mention all-district as a senior in both volleyball and basketball.  Holguin was also a success in the classroom during high school as she was named to the National Honor Society and to Who’s Who Among American High School Students. 

PERSONAL:  Nicole Holguin was born in Las Cruces, N.M. and is the daughter of Rick and Esther Holguin.  Both of her parents are NMSU graduates.  Holguin is undecided on a major.
