Biography

2009 (JUNIOR):  Woods was a first team All-WAC selection in 2009 after she showed how effective she is on both sides of the net.  Offensively, Woods finished with 274 kills, second most on the team, averaging 2.66 kills per set.  Defensively, she helped her team rank 20th in the nation in blocks (2.66/set) as she chipped in with 1.09 blocks per set.  She ranked eighth in the conference and third on the team in blocks per set, finishing with 112 total blocks on the season.  Against NCAA Tournament participant, Notre Dame (9/13), Woods posted a .647 hitting percentage with 12 kills on 17 attempts while committing only one error.  She tallied a career-high 22 kills at Louisiana Tech (9/27) as she was phenomenal posting a .576 hitting percentage.  She committed only three errors on 33 attempts that day.  She marked at least 10 kills on the right side in 12 matches.  Woods had three consecutive matches in conference play with at least 10 kills when she posted 19 against Idaho (11/7), 19 at Nevada (11/12) and 11 at Fresno State (11/14).

2008 (SOPHOMORE):  Woods stepped up her play as a sophomore and saw action in every match for the Aggies in 2008.  She averaged 1.44 kills per set and finished the season with 174, which was fourth on the team behind three all-WAC selections.  She was also a defensive threat as she ended the season with 107 total blocks and 48 digs.  During the NM State Tournament, Woods set her new career record of 13 kills when the Aggies beat Houston (9/5) in five sets.  She also set her career high for attempts with 27 that day and also tallied four block-assists.  Woods tallied at least four kills and four blocks in nine matches, while starting the season with seven kills and three blocks against nationally ranked Oregon (8/29) and seven kills and four blocks against Illinois (8/30) in the State Farm Illini Classic.  As NM State swept Nevada (9/20) in the second conference match of the season, Woods posted four kills, one dig and four blocks.  When the Aggies upset No. 6 Hawai'i (10/12) in Honolulu, Woods added five kills, one assist and five total blocks.  She had another seven-kill performance at Nevada (11/6) and tallied seven kills and four blocks against Fresno State (11/21) in the WAC Tournament.  Woods ended the year with her second double-digit kill match as she helped her team to a 3-1 victory over St. Mary's in round one of the NCAA Tournament.

2007 (RED SHIRT FRESHMAN): 
Although Woods was recovering from an injury for the majority of the 2007 season; she came in for the first time during the WAC Tournament and showed what the future holds.  In the four matches she played in, Woods had 16 kills and 14 total blocks.  In the WAC Tournament Championship against Hawai'i (11/17) she tallied five kills and followed that with five more kills in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against LSU (11/30).

2006 (FRESHMAN):
  Woods did not play and redshirted the 2006 season.  

HIGH SCHOOL:  Woods came to New Mexico State after graduating from Midland High School in Midland, Texas.  A multi-sport athlete, Woods played varsity volleyball as a junior and senior while playing four seasons with the Bulldogs' softball team.  As a junior, Woods was named first team All-District 3-5A while helping lead Midland High to a perfect 12-0 district record and the district title.  Woods was also named Midland High's Most Improved Player in 2004 and was named to the all-tournament team at the Seminole Tournament.  As a senior, Woods again helped lead the Bulldogs to a perfect 12-0 district record and the team's second straight district championship.  In 2005, Woods was named District 3-5A's Best Hitter, to the All-Permian Basin Team and to the All-West Texas Team.  Woods was named Midland High's Outstanding Offensive Player and was a nominee for the Midland High School Best Athlete award.  Woods was a four-year letter winner on the softball diamond for the Bulldogs and a three-year All-District 3-5A selection in center field.  As a junior in 2005, Woods was named to the All-Permian Basin Team and then was named District 3-5A's Offensive Most Valuable Player as a senior in 2006.

PERSONAL:
Whitney Nicole Woods was born is Midland, Texas and is the daughter of Sam and Diane Woods.  Woods is majoring in dentistry.  Her brother Chris a former NM State wide receiver, is now playing at Emporia State University.
