WACO, Texas – The 10th-ranked New Mexico State equestrian team is set for its first competition of the 2016 season as it travels to the Willis Invitational to face No. 5 Baylor, No. 9 Fresno State and South Dakota State on Friday and Saturday. Competition each day begins at 9 a.m. MT at the Willis Family Equestrian Center.
"We expect to have a strong showing at the tournament this weekend with many experienced returners to lead the way," said head coach
Robin Morris-Walters. "Our squad scrimmage went well a few weeks ago and we've had some good practices so far, so I am confident that everyone is finely tuned. We look forward to a great weekend of competition against several top 10 ranked teams."
Last season, the squad topped Fresno State at the Willis Invitational and then fell to the Bulldogs on the road later in the season. The team also defeated South Dakota State in a neutral site contest in Delaware, but dropped a road decision against Baylor.
NM State concluded the 2015 season with a 6-7 record. After defeating South Dakota State and UT Martin at home to capture the United Equestrian Conference championship, the squad earned a berth in the NCEA Tournament.
