LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Battle of I-25 resumes Tuesday night at the Pan American Center when the New Mexico State Aggies host cross-state rival New Mexico at 7 p.m.
The Aggies (10-5) are coming off a 3-0 win over UT Rio Grande Valley to open Western Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
The Lobos (8-6) defeated Nevada 3-1 to split their Mountain West Conference opening series over the weekend.
"It's always a brawl," said NM State Head Coach
Mike Jordan. "Rivalry games against good teams are fun, with high level play. We're expecting a real good matchup Tuesday night."
The Aggies have had a challenging schedule featuring six teams either nationally ranked or receiving votes during the season. While the Aggies posted a 1-5 record against the group, they took at least one set off of every team and beat Wichita State 3-2.
UNM comes to Las Cruces facing one nationally ranked squad, No. 3 USC, falling to the Trojans 3-0.
The Aggies are led by two-time WAC Player of the Week
Gwen Murphy, who was the AVCA National Player of the Week to open the season. Murphy leads the WAC with a .433 hitting percentage and is near the top of the league in kills with 3.40 per game.
The Lobos counter with junior Devanne Sours of Tatum, N.M., who averages 3.26 kills and a .181 attack percentage with 19 service aces on the year.
The match will be televised live on AggieVision, and can be seen statewide on Comcast Cable, KVIA News Now (digital channel 7.3) and available on Altitude Sports (DirecTV 681, Dish Network 413), Fox Sports Arizona Plus (DirecTV 686-1, Dish Network 448 SD & 9518 HD), Fox College Sports Pacific, Fox Sports Southwest Plus and online on ESPN3.
