Blythewood, S.C. – The 10th ranked New Mexico State equestrian team captured three points in both the equitation over fences and equitation on the flat events. However, the squad ultimately dropped the final two events, horsemanship and reining, to lose a close one to No. 8 South Carolina, 11-8.
Grace McMurry and
Remington Willkie each racked up a 90, while
Madison Brayman scored an 80, to earn the three points for the Aggies in equitation on the flat. In addition to her point, McMurry earned Most Outstanding Player in this event.
The next three points for the Aggies were claimed in equitation over fences by
Madison Brayman with a score of 81,
Samantha Perlman at 80 and
Erica Rosinski with 79.
NM State was edged out in horsemanship, 3-2. Despite the loss, the Aggies
Katlynn Crine took home Most Outstanding Player in the event with a score of 72. The final event, reining, saw the squad fall 4-0.
The team will regroup and get ready to take on Tennessee-Martin tomorrow, Oct. 22, in Athens, Ga.
