@NMStateFootball Falls to No. 9/10 Texas A&M

The NM State football team fell to No. 9/10 Texas A&M 52-10 at Kyle Field on Saturday night.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The NM State football team played with heart Saturday night in front of 99,960 hostile fans at Kyle Field as it fell 52-10 to No. 9/10 Texas A&M on the road.

"I told our offensive kids, we had 3 goals tonight," said head coach Doug Martin. "We wanted to play more physical, we wanted to take care of the football and we wanted to run the ball better. We really got all three of those down tonight. For us, it was a productive night as far as that goes. If we can carry that on into our last four conference games, then we have a chance to win some of those games, or all of those games."

Tyler Rogers finished the game completing 19-of-34 passes for 138 yards in the air and added another 40 on the ground. Larry Rose III ran for 89 of the Aggies' 169 net yards on the ground and added 26 reception yards as well for 115 all-purpose yards.

After back-to-back scores by Texas A&M (7-1) to start the game, the New Mexico State (2-6) defense was able to keep the home team from the red zone -- which resulted in a missed 50-yard field goal.

What looked like another three-and-out for NM State turned into its first points of the game thanks to a roughing the kicker call. Eleven plays and 59-yards later, a 33-yard field goal by Parker Davidson put the Aggies the board with 1:05 left to play in the half as they trailed Texas A&M 24-3 at the break.

NM State was in prime position to score in the third quarter after a strip by Rodney Butler was recovered by Dalton Herrington at the Texas A&M 30-yard line. However, the Aggies weren't able to capitalize on the turnover and gave the ball back on downs at the Texas A&M 28-yard line.

The home team tacked on another score with 1:50 left in the third quarter before NM State was able to find the back of the end zone to start the fourth quarter. With the ball on the Texas A&M 40-yard line, Rogers darted a ball to Anthony Muse. A face masking call on the play saw the chains move to the 12-yard line before a nine-yard run by Larry Rose III set up the touchdown pass from Rogers to Jaleel Scott – his third TD catch of the season.

The ninth-ranked team in the country added another touchdown right after to make it 52-10 as the score held the rest of the way in favor of Texas A&M.

NM State will get a week off before resuming Sun Belt Conference play on Saturday, Nov. 12, when it travels to Arkansas State. Kickoff time will be finalized this upcoming Monday when TV networks make their selections.
