LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Aggies split the series with Maine after a 13-3 loss on Sunday. The lone bright spots for NM State were
Brent Sakurai's two-for-three performance and
Trey Stine's one-for-four day with two of the Aggies' three RBI.

The game began with Maine's Jake Osborne reaching first on a throwing error by Stine. He was caught stealing second during the next at-bat for the first out of the game. The Black Bears scored their first run on a RBI single through the right side of field with runners at first and second. Their second run came on a sacrifice fly that scored the runner from third.

The Aggie couldn't get anything going in the first two innings, as they left a runner in scoring position both innings.

However, their time came in the home half of the third as
Jason Bush was hit by the first pitch to lead off the inning.
Daniel Johnson took his second-straight four-pitch walk, moving Bush to second.
Brent Sakurai loaded the bases, beating out a bunt to third base. The Aggies scored their first run as
Dan Hetzel walked in Bush on a 3-1 count.
Trey Stine's two-RBI double to left brought in Johnson and Sakurai, putting NM State up 3-2.

Maine did let the lead last for long, as in the top of the fourth, Kevin Stypulkowski single to lead off the frame. Brenden Geary beat out a bunt to the left of the pitcher, moving Stypulkowski to second. Alex Cabrera moved the runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt on a full count. Colin Ridley drove in one run with a sacrifice fly to center. Osborne brought home another run with a single to left, putting Maine back up 4-3.

Sakurai doubled down the left field line in the home half, but was left stranded at third.

Maine added another run in the top of the fifth as Brett Chappel singled, plating Danny Casals and pushing the score to 5-3.

The game got out of hand for NM State in the top of the sixth, as Maine scored four more runs off three hits, pushing the score to 9-3.

The Black Bears went on the score four more runs across final three innings, defeating NM State 13-3 and splitting the series at two games apiece.
The Aggies are back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 1 as they travel to Lubbock, Texas for a two-game series with No. 23 Texas Tech.
