Aggies Sweep Troy for Third-Straight Win

TROY, Ala. – New Mexico State volleyball continued to roll on Saturday morning as they swept host Troy in the Trojan Invitational. The Aggies took the match with a 25-15, 25-23, 25-18 decision.

The Aggies were led once again by junior Jordan Abalos. The Safford, Ariz. native logged her fifth double-double in six matches with 10 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Tatyana Battle also played a large role putting up nine kills. On the defensive side, freshman Brigette Lowe put up a team-leading four blocks.

NM State picked up where they left off yesterday by opening the match with a 10-1 run. Troy began to come to life late in the set, as they cut the lead to 15-10 midway through the frame. However, the comeback was not to be as the Aggies took the first set 25-15.

The second set was the opposite of the first as neither team could gain an advantage early, with five ties. Eventually, NM State began to break away with a 9-5 lead. Thanks to an 8-2 run, the Aggies were able to push the lead to 17-9. However, Troy came roaring all the way back to cut the lead to 22-19, and then 24-23. NM State was able to close out the frame and claim it 25-23.

In the third set, it looked like the Aggies would roll as they lead 5-3 early. However, the Trojans gained the momentum, and thanks to a 5-0 run grabbed their first lead of the match at 8-7. NM State kicked into gear once more and reclaimed the lead at 9-8 and would run out to a 14-10 lead. From there it was all Aggies, as they would win the frame and the match with a 25-18 decision.

The Aggies will be back in action this afternoon as they take on Southern at 1 p.m. in the finale of the Trojan Invitational.
