NM State Opens Home Schedule with Borderland Invitational

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State volleyball opens their home schedule with the Borderland Invitational on Friday. The Aggies are set to face off against Sacramento State at 1 p.m. and No. 16 Texas A&M at 7 p.m. on Friday in the Pan American Center. The Aggies also take on Arizona at noon on Saturday.

Fans can listen to all three matches on KRUX 91.5 FM, TuneIn.com, the TuneIn app or NMStateSports.com. Adam Young will be handling play-by-play duties. Friday's match against No. 16 Texas A&M will also be streamed live on the WAC Digital Network.

The Aggies come into the weekend on a four-game winning streak, after going undefeated in the Trojan Invitational last week in Troy, Ala. Once again, WAC Preseason Player of the Year Sasha-Lee Thomas led the Aggies with 44 kills, six blocks and a .400 hitting percentage.

Junior Jordan Abalos continues her great season with five double-doubles now in seven matches. Several freshmen are also making names for themselves. Last weekend, Brigette Lowe put up 17 kills and eight blocks. Megan Hart, a redshirt-freshman coming off a knee injury, racked up 11 blocks and 12 kills.

All of the teams in the tournament are familiar foes for NM State. In their last meeting with Sacramento State, the Aggies took the match in four sets in El Paso, Texas on Aug. 25, 2006. Last season, NM State took Texas A&M to five sets in College Station, Texas, but the other Aggies were victorious. Also last season, NM State and Arizona faced off, with the Wildcats coming out with the 3-1 victory.

Sacramento State is led by Shannon Boyle. Boyle has gathered 91 kills so far this season, and averages 4.33 kills per set. On defense, the Hornets look to Lexie Skalbeck and Brie Gathright, who have 103 digs and 16 blocks, respectively.

No. 16 Texas A&M is led offensively by Kiara McGee. McGee paces the Aggies with 87 kills and four service aces. Defensively, A&M is led by Kaitlyn Blake and Amy Nettles, who have logged 36 blocks and 67 digs, respectively.

On offense, Arizona is paced by Kendra Dahlke. So far this season, Dahlke has racked up 80 kills and 17 blocks. Defensively, the Wildcats look to Laura Larson and Devyn Cross, who have put up 88 digs and 18 blocks, respectively.
