Women's Tennis Travels for a Pair of Non-Con Matches

The NM State women’s tennis team hits the road for a pair of road matches beginning Thursday, March 23.

 LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's tennis team will travel for a pair of non-conference matches this week, beginning with Wyoming on Thursday, March 23, before battling Battle of I-25 rival New Mexico on Saturday, March 25. The match against Wyoming is slated for Noon (MT) while the contest against UNM is schedule for 11 a.m. (MT).
 
The Aggies are 6-8 on the season and opened Western Athletic Conference play last week 2-1.
 
Wyoming enters the match up against NM State 11-3 on the year. Its only losses have come against Iowa State (4-3), Nebraska (6-1) and Gonzaga (5-2). The Cowgirls have now won eight of its last 10 matches in dual play.
 
Tessa van der Ploeg paces UW with an 11-2 mark in dual play, playing predominantly at No. 3 singles while Ana Tkachenko is 10-2 on the yea in dual action on court No. 5. Meanwhile, Dorottya Jonas and Tkachenko lead the Cowgirls with a 10-2 record in doubles action at the No. 2 spot.
 
New Mexico has been struggling this season and sits at 1-11 overall on the year heading into this weekend. The Lobos are scheduled to battle UTEP on Friday at 11 a.m. before they host the Aggies on Saturday at 11 a.m. (MT).
 
UNM has lost six straight since picking up its lone win over Wisconsin in a neutral match in Salt Lake City. The Lobos started the season 0-5 before earning its first dual victory of the year.
