FORT COLLINS, Colo. – For the first time of the 2017 season, New Mexico State women's soccer came up short, losing against Colorado State Friday afternoon. After a tough battle, the match concluded with a score of 5-1.
Right out of the gate, forward
Audriana Chavez attempted a header at the 1:10 minute mark, but her shot was wide.
Jody Hernandez and
Devin Hart also attempted shots at the goal, but couldn't seal the deal. Going into halftime, the Aggies trailed 1-0 after Colorado State's Ally Murphy-Pauletto got the ball around NM State's goalkeeper
Ashley Martin.
It was at the start of the second half when the Aggies finally got a goal on the board, tying up the game, 1-1. Midfielder
Aileen Galicia made a great shot to land the ball in the net with assistance from Chavez. The Rams came back with a rebuttal when Murphy-Pauletto scored for a second time in the match, giving Colorado State the momentum they were looking for. Despite being neck and neck in shots the first half, NM State wound up having 11 total shots to Colorado State's 22. Martin concluded the match with six saves in her season debut.
NM State remains in the Centennial State where they will take on Northern Colorado, Sept. 3, at noon.
