SCOUTING THE RAZORBACKS
Arkansas enters Saturday's contest with a 1-2 record with their only win coming in the season-opener over Florida A&M, 49-7, on Aug. 31. The Razorbacks last game saw them fall, 50-43, in overtime to Texas A&M.
On the year, Arkansas has outscored opponents 99-85. Coming into the weekend showdown, the team out of Fayetteville, Ark. has gotten the better of their opponents in each of the first three quarters of play but has been outscored 40-29 in the final 15 minutes in 2017.
The offense has produced well both through the air and on the ground. With 548 passing yards and 591 rushing, the Razorbacks average 379.7 yards of total offense. This offensive attack is led by quarterback Austin Allen who is 35-for-67 for 502 yards and four touchdowns. The Razorbacks have plenty of options in the backfield as six players have multiple carries and three have found their way to the end zone.
On defense, Arkansas looks to linebackers Dre Greenlaw and De'Jon Harris who lead the team with 33 and 27 tackles, respectively. The Razorback defense has allowed opponents to put up 345.7 yards of total offense per gameÂ
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The Sun Belt Conference announced the football player of the week awards on Monday, Sept. 25. After a career-night against Battle of I-10 rival UTEP, New Mexico State defensive back Shamad Lomax earned the nod for defensive player of the week.
In the impressive 41-14 victory, Lomax recorded nine tackles and a career-high three interceptions. All three interceptions also came in just the first half, including a 19-yard pick-six that put the Aggies up 21-7 before heading to the locker room.
The three interceptions was the first time an Aggie has accomplished such a feat since Donald Stowers did so against UNLV on Nov. 18, 1995.
NM State's defense, led by Lomax, totaled five interceptions on the night which helped the Aggies to their first victory over rival UTEP since Sept. 20, 2008 and ended an eight-game losing streak.
This was Lomax's first Sun Belt Player of the Week honor and the third this season for an Aggie with quarterback Tyler Rogers and defensive back Ron LaForce earning the honor back on Sept. 11.
