NM State Women's Soccer to Face Stephen F. Austin

The Aggies look to bounce back in front of its home crowd following a tough third week of competition

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State women's soccer returns to the Soccer Athletic Complex for a pair of home matches, beginning with Stephen F. Austin (2-2-0). Kickoff is at 3 p.m. on Sept. 8. Later in the weekend, the Aggies host Incarnate Word (0-2-0), Sept. 10, at 1 p.m.
 

IN REVIEW: WEEK THREE OF COMPETITION
  • New Mexico State women's soccer succumbed to its first loss of the 2017 season against Colorado State, 5-1.
  • With the assist from Aileen Galicia, forward Audriana Chavez got the ball in the net to score her fourth goal of the season.
  • Despite being outshot 22-11, the Aggies topped the Rams in saves, 6-5.
  • NM State fell to Northern Colorado on Sept. 3, with a score of 4-1.
  • Goalkeeper Ashley Martin started in her second game of the season, completing 90 minutes of play time. During those 90 minutes, she had nine saves and allowed only four goals.
  • Midfielder Jody Hernandez scored her second goal of the season, coming at the 73:47 minute mark with assistance from Cristina Bertoldo.

AGGIES ATOP THE WAC STANDINGS
  • With a 4-2-1 record thus far in the 2017 campaign, NM State currently occupies the top spot in the Western Athletic Conference standings.
  • Chavez's talents continue to strengthen as the season progresses, having four goals on the season (three of which were game-winning goals). She also has three assists in her first seven matches.
  • The Aggies lead the way in assists with a total of 13. Forward Devin Hart currently has three assists, followed by Chavez who has three as well and Andrea Castaneda with two. Jess McDow, Aileen Galicia, Micaela Milavec, Katie Martinez and Mariah Baker each have one assist so far this season.

MATCH PREVIEW: STEPHEN F. AUSTIN
  • NM State will take on Stephen F. Austin for the first time since the 2013 season. The Aggies trail the Ladyjacks 0-1-0 overall.
  • Ladyjacks' Hanna Barker is coming off a great week of play, scoring two goals along with two assists, leading her to become Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
  • SFA has only given up six goals in their first four matches and tops their opponents in saves with 24.

PREVIEW: NM STATE VS. INCARNATE WORD
  • New Mexico State will face Incarnate Word for the second time in program history. The last time these two teams competed against one another was during the 2014 season when the Aggies defeated the Cardinals, 2-1.
  • UIW is currently 0-2-0 on the season, with losses coming against North Texas and Louisiana Tech.
  • Goalkeeper Sydney Huntsinger racked up six saves in her first two matches and allowed only four goals by her opponents.

COMING UP…
  • In week five of competition, NM State has a pair of home matches at the Soccer Athletic Complex, beginning with Northern Arizona. The Aggies trail the Lumberjacks with an overall record of 0-2-1. Kickoff is at 3 p.m. on Sept. 15.
  • NM State hosts Houston later in the weekend at 1 p.m. on Sept. 17. The Aggies are looking to even the playing field as they trail the Cougars with an all-time record of 0-1-0.
