LAS VEGAS – The New Mexico State women's tennis team dropped its first match of the 2018 dual season Friday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex to host UNLV, 7-0.
Â
The Aggies got into a hole early in doubles action with UNLV taking No. 1 doubles 6-4 short before clinching the doubles point with a 6-2 victory on court No. 3.
Â
Eli Arnaudova was the first Aggie to fall in singles play, losing in straight-sets to Juliet Zhang.
Vanessa Valdez then dropped her match to Aiwen Zhu 6-2, 6-2 at the top spot.
Rebecca Keijzerwaard gave Anna Bogoslavets a run in the first set before ultimately falling 7-5, 6-1 – which clinched the match for UNLV.
Â
Yadira Rubio was the only Aggie to win a set on Friday, forcing a tiebreaker against Izumi Asano at No. 4 singles. However, the first-year transfer was unable to reel in the win and lost 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3).
Â
Lindsay Harlas tried her best to force a third set at No. 3 singles, but ended up settling for the 6-1, 7-5 loss to En-Pei Huang. Freshman
Quinty Janssen also battled in her first set, but couldn't get past UNLV's Samantha Li 7-6, 6-3 to end the match.
Â
New Mexico State looks to rebound on Saturday, Jan. 20, when it takes the hard court once again, this time to take on Weber State at 11 a.m. (MT).
