LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State men's golf team wrapped up the two-day, 54-hole, Pepsi-Cola Classic on Sunday afternoon at the Redhawk Golf Club. At the end of three rounds, the Aggies finishes in fourth place out of eight squads shooting a 290-293-292—875 (+11).
Mike McGilton continues to lead the way for the NM State starting lineup as the senior fired a 67-72-72—211 (-5) and tied for second place out of 57 golfers.. McGilton's strong play saw him finish with 13 birdies to lead the team and be good for third in the tournament field.
Tadhg Campbell shot a 72-74-77—223 (+7) and tied for 20
th.
A pair of Aggies also finishing in the top-25 were
Hogan Molthan and
Tanvir Kahlon as each shot a 224 (+8) and tied for 22
nd.
Cameron Gambini rounded out the squad's starting lineup with a scorecard of 79-73-73—225 (+9) to tie for 27
th.
As for the Aggie individuals,
Tristin Goodwin posted the top-score among the 17 individuals at the Pepsi-Cola Classic firing a 219 (+3) to tie for 11
th.
Garrison Smith had a 54-hole score of 224 (+8) to tie for 22
nd and
Davis Chung was two strokes behind at 226 (+10) and placed in a tie for 31
st.
Niall Powell and
Ryo Harada each shot a 228 (+12) and tied for 39
th.
Thomas Tulk finished with a score of 233 (+17) to finish in 49
th.
Tyler Svendson completed the NM State individuals shooting a 235 (+19) to finish in 51
st.
At the end of the Pepsi-Cola Classic, host UTEP finished atop the leaderboard taking home first place with a team score of 855 (-9), followed by Grand Canyon in second place at 867 (+3) and UMKC in third shooting an 872 (+8).
The Pepsi-Cola Classic closed out the fall slate for the New Mexico State men's golf team and the Aggies now take a few months off before teeing off the spring schedule at the Arizona Intercollegiate, Jan. 28-29, in Tucson, Ariz. on the Sewailo Golf Course.
