@NMStateWTEN Hosts Two Matches for Home-Opener

The NM State women’s tennis team hosts its first matches of the season with NAU and Abilene Christian this weekend.

LAS CRUES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's tennis team will play at home for the first time this season when it entertains Northern Arizona and Abilene Christian this Friday and Saturday at the NM State Tennis Center. Admission is free for fans at all NM State men's and women's tennis matches.

Aggie fans will get their first look at first-year head coach Emily Wang's team on Friday, Feb. 2, when NM State battles Northern Arizona at 9:30 a.m. (MT). The Lumberjacks are 0-2 to start their dual season, falling to both Arizona State and Arizona 7-0. The last time NM State and NAU faced off in Las Cruces was on Feb. 28, 2016, a 4-0 affair that went in favor of the Lumberjacks. NM State's last win against NAU came on Feb. 16, 2014, at home 5-2.

On Saturday, Feb. 3, New Mexico State entertains Abilene Christian for a 2 p.m. match. The Wildcats are 2-2 on the season with wins over Oral Roberts (4-0) in their season-opener in Stillwater, Okla., before falling to Oklahoma State 6-1. ACU then headed to Dallas for a pair of matches and opened with a 7-0 sweep of Dallas Baptist before dropping a 4-1 decision to SMU.

Abilene Christian will first play UTEP on Friday. An early morning match against NAU is scheduled before the Wildcats face off against NM State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
