Aggies Fall to Lobos on Sunday

The NM State women’s tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to New Mexico Sunday.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision Sunday afternoon against Battle of I-25 rival New Mexico at the NM State Tennis Center.
 
Doubles play started off with UNM taking the doubles point with win over NM State on courts No. 3 and No. 2, respectively.
 
The first set was highly contested between up and down the lineup. However, the Lobos (7-6) grabbed an early 2-0 advantage when Eli Arnaudova was bested at the No. 5 singles position 6-1, 6-2. NM State's (7-11) deficit grew to 3-0 shortly thereafter when UNM's Hsiang-Wen Huang bested Helena Colvee on court No. 6, 6-2, 6-3.
 
The Aggies saw the match come to a close on court No. 4 when Yadira Rubio was defeated by Bronte Murgett 7-6, 6-3. When the match was called, NM State was leading at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions while UNM led the No. 3 slot.
 
New Mexico State will look to bounce back this upcoming Friday, April 6, as it heads to Seattle, Wash., for the final Western Athletic Conference cluster. First up for the Aggies will be the host Redhawks on Friday at 2 p.m. (MT) before taking on UT Rio Grande Valley on Saturday, April 7, and wrap up league action with UMKC on Sunday, April 8.
