@NMStateWTEN Takes Down UTEP at Home

The NM State women’s tennis team took down UTEP Saturday afternoon at home, 4-1.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's tennis team took down Battle of I-10 rival UTEP Saturday afternoon 4-1 at the NM State Tennis Center for its second-straight win over the Miners.

The last time NM State beat UTEP in consecutive seasons came during the 2013-14 seasons.

NM State (8-14, 2-3 WAC) got a head start in doubles action with UTEP forfeiting the No. 3 doubles match due to it being short-handed due to injuries. With the 1-0 lead, Rebecca Keijzerwaard and Lindsay Harlas used a 6-3 win at the top doubles position to secure doubles point.

Singles play opened with the Miners (6-14, 0-5 CUSA) forfeiting the point on court No. 6 while the Aggies loss by default on court No. 3, making the score 2-1 in favor of New Mexico State.

Lindsay Harlas was the first player to finish a complete match, taking down Raven Bennett 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 2 singles slot. The rest of the matches went into the third set with the exception of court No. 4. Yadira Rubio battled Maria Media to the bitter in the first set before fending off another assault from her counterpart before clinching the match for NM State 7-5, 7-6 (8-6).

With play halted after NM State clinched the match, Keijzerwaard was ahead in the third set at the top singles position 6-2, 3-6, 5-2 while Eli Arnaudova battled back to force a third set 4-6, 6-3, 2-1.

The Aggies now get a week and half to prepare for the Western Athletic Conference Tournament. But, before facing off against the No. 6-seed Seattle U on Friday, April 27, at 10 a.m. (MT), the Aggies will take on Arizona Christian on Wednesday, April 25, at noon as a primer.
