@NMStateTrackXC Opens Indoor Season in Albuquerque

The Aggies begin the indoor track and field season with the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State track and field gets set to begin in 2019 season when the squad travels to Albuquerque, N.M., for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational that begins on Friday, Jan 18. The two-day meet is set to take place at the ABQ Convention Center and is hosted by New Mexico.

Some of the top returners for the team include Lashira Tremble, who set the program record in the 60m dash at the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in 2018 when she took home the gold with a time of 7.51. Crissey Amberg is set to compete after redshirting both the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2018. The runner was chosen as the Outstanding Track Performer at the 2017 WAC Indoor Championships following a first place finish in the mile while also earning second in the 3,000m.

For the field events, Kayli Farmer returns for NM State after taking a redshirt in 2018 along with Amberg. She faces stiff competition in the high jump from her own teammate Keyarha Wilson, who has taken home the top honors in the event at the indoor conference championships the past two seasons. Also looking to leave her mark during the indoor season is Hannah Smith, who competed in the triple jump at the NCAA West Regionals during the 2018 outdoor season. For the throwing events, Yemisi Oroyinyin competes for the New Mexico State squad following her second-place finish in the shot put at the league's indoor championship in 2018.

NM State begins the two-day season opener with the women's weight throw starting at 4 p.m. MT on Friday. The running events from the meet begin with the women's open unseeded 400m at 5 p.m. The meet continues on Saturday with the women's shot put at 9:30 a.m. and the women's 60m hurdles qualifying round at 10 a.m. Fans can follow along with the live results from the meet here.
