ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico State track and field began the indoor season with the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational from the Albuquerque Convention Center on Friday.
Five NM State runners placed in the top-10 for the 3,000m with
Stephanie Quintero finishing in second with a time of 10:40.61.
Julia Yescas claimed fourth in the race, clocking in at 10:46.43.
Corinne Hanson (11:02.89) and
Kelli Kirkpatrick (11:07.17) took home sixth and seventh, respectively.
Michaela Romero rounded out the squad in ninth with a time of 11:14.65. In her first collegiate race,
Takiyah Johnson shined, placing third in the 400m when she clocked in at 58.25.
In the weight throw
Taniya Mitchell posted a personal best mark of 17.93m (58-10) to take home second place. The throw ranks third in the Aggie record books.
Yemisi Oroyinyin (17.25m, 56-8.5) and
Bristol O'Connor (16.43m, 53-11) followed closely behind in fifth and sixth, respectively.
Kayli Farmer took home 10
th in the high jump when she posted a mark of 1.61m (5-3.25).
The meet continues on Saturday with the women's shot put beginning at 9:30 a.m. MT. For the running events, the women's 60m hurdles qualifying round starts at 10 a.m. Fans can follow along with the live results from the meet
