DENVER – New Mexico State track and field's Taniya Mitchell was named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. This is the first honor of the year for the senior.
 
Mitchell recorded a new personal record when she took home second place in the weight throw, posting a mark of 17.93m (58-10) at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational over the weekend. The throw currently puts the senior atop the conference leaderboard and the throw also ranks third in the NM State record books. Mitchell also competed in the shot put at the meet, posting a throw of 11.03m (36-2.25).
 
The Aggies are back in action at the ABQ Convention Center when the squad competed at the New Mexico Collegiate Team Invitational on Saturday, January 26.
