LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State men's tennis team opened up its dual season with a dominating 6-1 victory over Mesa Community College Saturday afternoon at the NM State Tennis Center.

The Aggies started doubles action sweeping the T-Birds on all three courts by score of 6-2 with the top doubles team of
Stijn de Haan and
Mauri Benitez clinching the point.

Singles play opened up with
Luis Flores cleaning up on court No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over his opponent before Benitez took down MCC's Ali Moin in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Freshman
Martin Simecek clinched the match for New Mexico State on court No. 3 when he defeated Jorge Sala 6-2, 6-2.

Enrique Asmar continued the Aggie dominance at the No. 4 singles slot when he took down his opponent 6-1, 6-2 followed by
Louis Menard's 6-2, 6-3 victory on court No. 2. The T-Birds stole a point in singles as Kyryll Kryvchun bested de Haan 6-2, 6-4 at the top singles position.

New Mexico State returns to action tomorrow at noon on Sunday, Jan. 27, when it hosts a doubleheader with the women's tennis team taking on the Mustangs at 2 p.m. after the men. As always, admission is free for all matches at the NM State Tennis Center.
