NM State Track and Field Takes Second at WAC Indoor Championships

Asjah Wallace was named the Outstanding Track Performer and the High Point Award winner following the meet.

NAMPA, Idaho. – New Mexico State track and field competed at the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships at the Ford Idaho Center on Saturday. The Aggies placed second as a team at the conference meet.
 
Keosha Sanders set a new program record when she ran 7.42 in the 60m. The sprinter previously set the school record in the team's first meet of the season. Brooke Wallace also competed in the race and took eighth with a time of 7.80.
 
Asjah Wallace won the 60m hurdles title when she ran 8.45 for a program record and a personal best. Arneisha Mitchell took seventh at 8.93.
 
In the 200m race. B. Wallace took the crown when she ran 24.32. She was followed closely behind by A. Wallace, who ran 24.34 to take second in the event.
 
Keyarha Wilson took home her third-straight title in the indoor high jump when the junior posted a mark of 1.70m (5-7). Kayli Farmer also competed in the event, finishing in fourth when she jumped 1.67m (5-5.75). In the shot put, Yemisi Oroyinyin came away with fifth when she posted a mark of 14.17m (46-6).
 
In the 400m, Camira Haughton was the top Aggie finisher when she ran 56.32 for fourth. Lanie Whelpley (57.03) and Takiyah Johnson (57.25) placed sixth and seventh, respectively. Leah Salazar claimed fifth in the 800m when she ran 2:15.25.
 
Crissey Amberg was the top finisher in the mile for NM State, clocking in at 5:00.96 for fourth. Julia Yescas took home sixth when she ran 5:01.90. For the 3,000m, Jess Dominguez finished in second with a time of 10:05.04. Yescas claimed fifth in the race, running 10:07.72.
 
The 4x400m relay team of Johnson, Whelpley, Haugton, and A. Wallace took home first in the race when the team clocked in with a time of 3:45.22.
 
Following the meet, A. Wallace was named the Outstanding Track Performer. She also received the prestigious High Point Award for her outstanding performance at the meet.
