DENVER – New Mexico State track and field's Taniya Mitchell was named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. This is the second honor of the indoor season for the senior.
 
Mitchell took first in the weight throw at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic last Friday when she posted a mark of 18.77m (61-7). The throw ranks first in the Aggie indoor record books and on the WAC performance list for the season.
 
NM State closes the regular season this weekend with the Don Kirby Collegiate Elite Invitational. The two-day meet is set to take place from Feb. 8-9, at the Albuquerque Convention Center and is hosted by New Mexico.
