ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico State track and field team was split between the Texas Tech Shootout and the Don Kirby Collegiate Elite Invitational on Friday. For a second-straight week, the weight throw record was shattered and this time,
Yemisi Oroyinyin took home the top mark.
On her first attempt, Oroyinyin posted a mark of 19.28m (63-3), which would have broken the record on its own. However, the senior followed the throw by recording a mark of 20.16m (66-1.75), which was good for fourth in the event. Following close behind in the event was
Taniya Mitchell (18.38m, 60-3.75), who placed 11
th.
In the unseeded 400m,
Camira Haughton took third with a personal-best time of 56.35. Following closely behind was
Brooke Wallace, who clocked in at 56.41 for fourth. In the 200m, B. Wallace was the top Aggie finisher, recording a time of 24.71 for 30
th place.
Asjah Wallace also competed in the event, finishing with a time of 25.03. For the 600m,
Elizabeth Mendoza claimed 13
th when she finished with a time of 1:39.19.
At the Texas Tech Shootout, a pair of runners competed in the 5,000m.
Jess Dominguez finished in third with a time of 17:51.70.
Corinne Hanson clocked in at 18:06.44 for fifth in the event.
The Aggies are back in action at both meets on Saturday, Feb. 9. The Texas Tech Shootout running events begin at 11 a.m. with the women's 600 yards. Saturday's events at the Don Kirby Collegiate Elite Invitational start at 9:30 a.m. with the women's shot put and the first running event of the day is the 60m hurdles at 10 a.m. Fans can follow along with the action at
