KERRVILLE, Texas – The New Mexico State men's golf team finished play after the third and final round at The Big Texan on Tuesday. At the conclusion of the two-day, three-round tournament, the Aggies fired a 278-274-287—839 (-25) to take home second place out of 11 teams and saw three golfers finish in the top-10.
Among the starting lineup for NM State, play was led by
Tadhg Campbell who carded a 66-67-71—204 (-12) to finish in third place out of 64 golfers.
Mike McGilton finished in seventh place after shooting a 69-66-72—207 (-9). Campbell and McGilton were two of the three Aggie starters to record an eagle during tournament play. The final golfer in the top-10 was
Cameron Gambini who fired a 66-70-72—208 (-8) to finish in a tie for eighth. Gambini also led the tournament field by a large margin in par-3 scoring at 2.67 (-4).
Ryo Harada wrapped up The Big Texan in a tie for 33
rd with a scorecard of 77-71-72—220 (+4).
Davis Chung, the third Aggie to shoot an eagle, tied for 37
th at 77-71-73—221 (+5).
Garrison Smith competed as an individual and took home a tie for 19
th to lead the individual field after he shot a 76-67-72—215 (-1).
Niall Powell also competed individually and shot a 67-81-75—223 (+7).
At the conclusion of The Big Texan, Texas State finished atop the team leaderboard at 831 (-33), followed by NM State in second at 839 (-25) and Abilene Christian completed the top-three with a team score of 845 (-19).
For the next tournament, the New Mexico State men's golf team remains in the Lone Star State for the Aggie Invitational, April 6-7, at the Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas.
