ALBUQUERQUE – New Mexico State Athletics long-time play-by-play man Jack Nixon and former Aggie men's basketball player Justin Hawkins recently garnered the New Mexico Broadcasters Association Excellence in Broadcasting Award for Sports Play-by-Play the association announced for large markets.
 
The award-winning play-by-play call for Nixon and Hawkins was of the final call in New Mexico State's miraculous half-court heave by hometown hero Johnny McCants to give the Aggies a 77-75 victory over Grand Canyon with 3.3 seconds remaining on the clock.
 
This season was the first Nixon and Hawkins have worked together calling Aggie men's basketball home games.
