Galloway’s Runner-Up Finish Highlights Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational

Senior Dominique Galloway concluded her strong weekend at Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan, Kan., with a one-under-par 71 in the final round to secure a second-place individual finish.

MANHATTAN, Kan. – NM State women's golf senior Dominique Galloway is headed home with a trophy.
 
The native of Rio Rancho, N.M, closed out the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational with a one-under-par 71 performance in the final round of the tournament Monday to claim the individual runner-up award. She finished in sole possession of second place with an overall score of one-under-par 215.
 
Galloway, who finished four shots behind individual champion Kansas State's Niamh McSherry (211, -5), fired a one-under-par 71 and one-over-par 73 in the first and second rounds, respectively, Sunday. She was tied for second entering Monday's final round and maintained that position until the end.
 
Freshman Alison Gastelum and sophomore Amelia McKee also concluded the tournament in the top 20. Gastelum, playing in her first collegiate tournament, finished tied for 10th at five-over-par 221, while McKee was tied for 16th at nine-over-par 225.
 
Gastelum, the native of Chihuahua, Mexico, entered the day in a three-way tie for 10th place and held on to that spot when it was all said and done, shooting a one-over-par 73 in the final round. She had fired an even-par 72 in tournament's opening round, her first collegiate round, Sunday.
 
Senior Pun Chanachai and sophomore Chantal Dueringer rounded out NM State's fivesome. Chanachai finished tied for 32nd (232, +16), and Dueringer was tied for 44th (235, +19).
 
As a team, the Aggies finished tied for fourth with an overall score of 29-over-par 893. Host institution Kansas State, the reigning champion entering the tournament, won the event with an overall team score of 17-over-par 881.
 
NM State returns to the golf course next week in Fort Collins, Colo. The Aggies are set to compete in the Ptarmigan Ram Classic, hosted by Colorado State, Monday, Sept. 23, and Tuesday, Sept. 24.
