LUBBOCK, Texas - Top-10 finishes in five events highlighted NM State track & field's first day in its season-opening performance at the Corky Classic.
Three freshman recorded top-10 finishes in their collegiate debuts.
Micah Walker finished ninth in the 200m dash with a time of 26.18, whileÂ
Terice Steen claimed eighth in the 600-yard run with a time of 1:28.42.Â
Fellow freshman
Dascha Robinson, meanwhile, tied for third in the long jump with a leap of 5.32m.Â
The Aggies' two other top-10 finishes came in the 1000m run and shot put. Senior
Leah Salazar took sixth in the 1000m with a time of 3:01.12, while senior
Andi Harrelson claimed 10th in the shot put with a distance of 10.21m.
Salazat's time in the 1000m is the third-best performance in school history. Courtney Schultz set the program record (2:55.39) in 2012, while Diana Hawk holds the second-best time of 2:58.33 was set in 2014.
The action picks up tomorrow morning. The second and final day of the competition starts at 10 a.m. MT Saturday and projects to finish at 3:30 p.m. MT.
