Aggies Head to Albuquerque for First of Three Indoor Meets

NM State track & field will compete in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational, hosted by New Mexico, this weekend.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Time to turn Albuquerque into Aggiequerque.

The NM State track & field team makes its first of three trips up to The Duke City during the indoor season this weekend. The Aggies are set to compete in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational, hosted by New Mexico, Friday, Jan. 24, and Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

The meet will be streamed by FloTrack.
 
SCHEDULE
Friday's action is slated to begin at 4 p.m., starting with the weight throw. The day concludes with the 200m dash, which is scheduled to get going at 7:35 p.m.

The second and final day of the meet begins with the shot put at 9 a.m. Saturday. The competition wraps up on the track, concluding with the 4x400m relay at 2:35 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE MEET
The Aggies will go head-to-head against some of the nation's top teams during the two-day meet, including No. 1 USC, No. 4 Texas and No. 16 LSU. Host and in-state rival No. 6 New Mexico and Battle of I-10 foe UTEP round out the field.

AGGIE UPDATE
NM State is coming off a successful season-opening showing last weekend at the Corky Classic, hosted by Texas Tech, in Lubbock, Texas. The Aggies hold the Western Athletic Conference's top marks in five events entering the second week of the indoor campaign.

Seniors Keosha Sanders and Lashira Tremble each clocked in at 7.50 in the 60m dash at the Corky Classic and maintain the WAC's top time in the event this season by .22 seconds. Freshman Essence Brown, meanwhile, sits atop the conference leaderboard in the 200m dash with her time of 24.95.

Senior Nia Garcia holds the WAC's top 60m hurdles time this season. She came in at 8.88 seconds at the Corky Classic and sits ahead of the next closest finisher by .11 seconds.

Senior Keyarha Wilson's mark of 1.70m in the high jump is the conference's best so far. Freshman Dascha Robinson's mark of 12.33m in the triple jump is nearly a full meter ahead of the next closest competitor.
