LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State football now has a third game on tap for this spring.
The Aggies added Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (DII) member New Mexico Highlands to their revised schedule on Thursday. The in-state foes will meet for the 14th time overall and the first time since 1999 when they square off on Feb. 27, 2021, inside Aggie Memorial Stadium.
NM State, which postponed the 2020 football season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, previously added two games to its revised spring 2021 schedule. The Aggies host
Tarleton State on Feb. 20 at Aggie Memorial Stadium before welcoming in
Dixie State on March 6.
New Mexico Highlands is led by first-year head coach Josh Kirkland, who takes over for a program that went 2-9 overall, including a 2-8 mark in RMAC play, during the 2019 campaign. NMHU, at the behest of its conference, also postponed football to the spring of 2021 due to the pandemic.
The Aggies hold a 10-3 all-time advantage over the Cowboys. The last meeting between the two programs came in 1999, when NM State cruised to a 73-7 season-opening win at Aggie Memorial Stadium.
