LAS CRUCES, N.M. - A former Chanticleer is on his way to New Mexico State.
Outfielder Kyle Westfall became the latest addition to the Aggies' 2021 signing class on Monday. The Mason, Ohio, native, who began his collegiate career at Coastal Carolina, will play the the 2021 season at Wabash Valley College before joining NM State for the 2022 season.
As a true freshman during the shortened 2020 campaign, Westfall saw action in 10 games off the bench for the Chanticleers. He hit .333 with a home run, three RBIs, two runs scored and recorded one stolen base while posting a .833 slugging percentage and a .333 on-base percentage on the year.
Westfall notched a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage on the season from the outfielder as well as earned a spot on the Dean's List (3.5 GPA or higher) for the 2019 fall semester.
Coming out of high school, Westfall, who attended IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., was the top-ranked outfielder and second-ranked overall prospect in the class of 2019 in the state of Ohio byÂ
Perfect Game. He was also 28th-ranked outfielder and 138th overall prospect nationally in the class of 2019 byÂ
Perfect Game.
NM State's 2021 recruiting class now stands at 12 signees. The new class of Aggies includes of six pitchers (Bachelier, Cortes, Downing, Estrella, Swenson and Verdugo), one catcher (Kilgore), three infielders (Espinoza, Rogers and Wiltshire) and two outfielder (Schneider and Westfall). Five members of the signing class are from Arizona and three hail from California while Chihuahua, Mexico, Kansas, Nebraska and Ohio each have one representative.Â
