 PRs all around.
NM State is in good form headed into the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, as a handful of Aggie competitors logged new personal bests Thursday evening at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational.
Senior
Lanie Whelpley and freshman
Daneisha Woodside both set new indoor personal records on the track, continuing to take big strides in the 400m dash. Whelpley took third and came across the line in 56.22, and Woodside finished right behind her in fourth at 56.27.
Whelpley's time in the event is the second-best mark in the WAC this season, while Woodside's effort ranks third best in the conference. The Aggies now have a grip on the top-three 400m dash times in the WAC this season, as senior
Brooke Wallace maintains the top spot with her time of 56.10.
Senior
Bristol O'Connor, meanwhile, strengthened her position on the WAC's performance list in the weight throw. She hit a new personal-best 17.34m, improving on her previous indoor best of 16.83m, and now holds the conference's second-best mark in the weight throw by .80m.
Senior
Leah Salazar impressed in the 600m with a new personal-best time of 1:35.52. She took fifth place in the event while improving on her time by more than one second.
Freshman
Dascha Robinson jumped her way to a new personal record in the long jump. She hit a mark of 5.35m in the event, improving by .03m.
The second and final day of the competition rolls on tomorrow morning. Action from inside the Albuquerque Convention Center begins with the shot put at 8:30 a.m. and wraps up on the track with the 4x400m relay at 2:30 p.m.
