NAMPA, Idaho - History made!
The Aggies are the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Champions for the first time ever. NM State blew out the field Saturday at the Ford Idaho Center, knocking off Grand Canyon, winners of the previous six indoor track titles, in the process.
Freshman
Essence Brown was named the WAC Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Year, and head coach Doug Reynold claimed WAC Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year honors.
AGGIE CHAMPIONS
NM State competitors were crowned champions in seven events Saturday - 60m dash,
200m dash,
400m dash,
3000m race, 60m hurdles, high jump and
4x400m relay.Â
Senior
Lashira Tremble won one of her two titles in the 60m dash, setting a new personal best with a time of 7.38m to earn the gold medal. She finished .04 seconds ahead of second-place senior
Keosha Sanders, who still holds the school record of 7.36.
Tremble also won an individual title in the
200m dash, setting yet another indoor personal best with her time of 24.00. She came in .39 seconds ahead of second-place Brown, who also turned in a personal-best effort in the race.
The Aggies swept the podium in the
400m dash, led by senior
Brooke Wallace's personal-best time of 55.14. SeniorÂ
Lanie Whelpley took silver at 55.63, and sophomore
Daneisha Woodside won the bronze medal with a time of 56.45.
Junior
Jess Dominguez claimed the gold in the
3000m race, clocking in a new personal-best time of 10:02.86. Her performance ranks fourth best in school history.

Telecia Briscoe won gold in the 60m hurdles with her time of 8.41, which came one day after she set the new school record (8.40) in the prelims. Senior
Asjah Wallace was right behind
her, crossing the line in 8.61 seconds to take silver in the event.
Senior
Keyarha Wilson, meanwhile, dominated in the high jump as she did all season. She hit a mark of 1.69m, winning the event by a convincing .06m.

Whelpley teamed up for a first-place finish in the
4x400m relay, claiming another title for the Aggies. The foursome came across the line in 3:48.06, finishing ahead of second-place
UTRGV by nearly four seconds.
The Aggies earned 206 points as a team and came in 49 points ahead of this year's second-place finisher GCU.
