ALBUQUERQUE – Judging by its performance this weekend, the NM State track & field program is ready for the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.
Â
Senior
Brooke Wallace and freshman
Dascha Robinson cemented their spots atop the conference's performance lists with personal-best efforts Saturday at the UNM Collegiate Classic.
Â
Wallace competed in the 400m dash, finishing with a new personal-best time of 55.99. Her time leads the conference by .49 seconds and is the third-best mark in Aggie history.
Â
Robinson has the WAC's top mark this season in the triple jump by a large margin. Her personal-best effort of 12.45m is nearly one meter ahead of the next closest conference competitor (11.48m).
Â
Her mark is the second-best triple jump in school history and sits behind only Sandra Anane's 13.14m effort, which was set in 2007.
Â
Senior
Nia Garcia, meanwhile, turned in a strong performance in the 60m hurdles. Her time of 8.81, though not a personal best, is currently the WAC's top time this season.
Â
Sophomore
Sam Ponds' distance of 13.95m in the shot put is now the third-best mark in the conference this season. The effort also ranks as fifth best on the Aggies' all-time performance list.
Â
NM State heads right back to Albuquerque next weekend. The Aggies will compete in their final regular-season meet – the Don Kirby Invitational – on Thursday, Feb. 13, and Friday, Feb. 14, at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
