Adam Young chatted with Jason Huntley about his preparation for the NFL Draft, how COVID-19 has impacted his training and his best memories at NM State. The Aggie running back rushed for 1,090 yards and nine touchdowns in his senior campaign, running for 100 or more yards in five games during 2019.
Huntley is one of 12 Aggie running backs since 1954 to run for 1,000 or more yards in a season.

AY: How are things in Arlington, Texas, and how do you continue to get ready for the NFL Draft despite the circumstances right now?
Â
JH:Â I'm doing well. Everything's good out here in Arlington. I'm just trying to stay safe and out of the way, taking all precautions. I've been working on my own a lot. Over the time, I've made some friends with gyms, so I'm able to get some workouts.
Â
AY: Is it a lot of push-ups, sit-ups and cardio on your own?
Â
JH:Â I've been running a mile at least two times a week. Sometimes three. I'll get on the weights sometimes, but it's been a lot of bodyweight exercises - push-ups, sit-ups. Trying to stay in shape as much as possible.
Â
AY: You had a really great career, including a great senior season. Do you feel like you've took it to a different level this offseason?
Â
JH: Definitely, I had to step it up. I had to gain more weight because there's going to be a lot bigger hits and a lot bigger people at the NFL.
Â
AY: How hard is it to gain good weight, but still maintain the speed and quickness that you have?
Â
JH:Â I've had a nutritionist. During my training process, the nutritionist from the Dallas Mavericks watched what I ate, made sure I was getting the right vitamins, made sure I was eating my greens and made sure I was able to perform at the standard they know I can perform at.
Â
AY: You performed quite well at Pro Day. Your 40-yard dash time was the best among running backs in the country. Were you satisfied with that time?
Â
JH:Â I was happy about it. Honestly, I think I can go even faster, but I was definitely pleased with the time. A lot of teams wanted to see it. They've seen I was fast on film, but they wanted to see it for themselves, so that was pretty much a confirmation.
Â
AY: What impressed me the most was your bench press and vertical jump. Were those two areas really important to show scouts what you can do there?
Â
JH:Â Yes sir, it was really just a confirmation. That bench and vertical show my explosiveness. The 40-yard dash showed it's not just the film. I'm really explosive and really fast.
Â
AY: What have you heard from NFL personnel on what they like about you or what you need to work on to excel at the next level?
Â
JH:Â Teams love my versatility. The fact that I play running back and caught so many balls out of the position. I lead the team in receiving yards and touchdowns my junior year, so they've been amazed by that. On top of that, me being an All-American kick returner is my biggest asset to them. They feel like they can put me anywhere on the field.
Â
AY: Where did you feel like you grew the most in your four years with the Aggies?
Â
JH:Â Off the field, being on my own and away from home taught me how to man up and do things the right way. Discipline, being on time or early to things - that goes a long way when you're a professional athlete.
AY: What are some things Coach Matt Christian taught you during your time here?
Â
JH:Â Coach was good to me. We worked on a lot of things - my catching, positioning, how to react. We did a lot of drills that weren't normal, but made sense when game time came. Even off the field, I had a 3.0 GPA during my All-American season. When you have good grades, your season will correlate, and it was true. That was one of the best season I had.Â
AY: The Draft is close. Does it feel like you dream is within grasp?
Â
JH: I've been waiting for this for a long time. I'm blessed that I was able to get a Pro Day because a lot weren't able. I'm glad I could confirm who I said I am and who the film shows me to be.
AY: Going back to Pro Day, how proud were you of your Aggie teammates? A lot of guys really performed well.
Â
JH: I was really happy to get with them before and after. Everybody looked good, and I was proud of how we portrayed ourselves as a unit.
