Aggies Dominate UTEP in Exhibition

EL PASO, TEXAS - It did not take very long for the Aggies to knock the rust off Friday night, as they defeated the UTEP Miners by a score of  3-1 at University Field in El Paso, Texas.

Senior Shea O'Connor got the scoring going for the Aggies in the 15th minute from sophomore Hanna Leitner's first of two assists on the night.

Just over four minutes later, the Aggies added another goal, this time from Leitner. Freshman Megan Ormson got her first assist as an Aggie, and the Aggies were in control early.

The defense would not budge with junior Makenna Gottschalk and redshirt-senior Dmitri Fong each recording a save for the Aggies.

Freshman Loma McNeese took no time getting in the action during her first collegiate match, as she scored her first goal in the 46th minute on a beautiful pass across the box from Leitner.

The Miners would add a goal in the 62nd minute but the Aggies would hold on for the victory.

"We started off a little slow, but the first group took control of the game with two quick goals." head coach Rob Baarts said. "We had them on their heels from the start and were able to finish it off."

The Miners would outshoot the Aggies 11-8 but the Aggies had three more shot on goals.

The Aggies will return to action on Sunday, Feb 7 at Arizona State at 1 p.m. The game will be live streamed by the Sun Devils.
