Garcia's Last-Minute Strike Lifts NM State to 2-1 Victory over Seattle U

Sophomore scores game-winner with 41 seconds to go

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - After ripping all of the momentum away from the NM State women's soccer team by coming up with a game-tying score score with 1:41 to go, Seattle U appeared to have the number of the NM State women's soccer team once again.

The Aggies, though, countered with one thing the Redhawks didn't have: Bella Garcia.

Continuing to play with a broken arm, the sophomore out of Sacramento, Calif., played the role of hero Friday night, punching in the game-winning goal with 41 seconds to go in order to lift NM State to a colossal 2-1 triumph over Seattle U.

SCORING SUMMARY
75' | After putting pressure on the Redhawks for the majority of the game, the Aggies finally broke through in the 75th minute. Loma McNeese found Bianca Chacon seven yards outside of the box and sent a pass up to the El Paso, Texas, product who did the rest. Chacon launched a right-footed lofting shot which found its way past the outstretched arms of Seattle U netminder Lexi Davis for the Aggies' first goal of the night.
89' | Just when it looked as though the Aggies had a win locked up, the Redhawks notched the equalizer. Seattle U's game-tying score came off of a free kick which was settled down in the Aggies' box by Gabe Jillings. Sydney Carr came streaking in and launched a rocket over the head of NM State netminder Makenna Gottschalk to tie matters at one goal apiece.
90' | A shade over 60 seconds after the Redhawks made a bid for overtime, Garcia made sure an extra session would not be necessary. One step inside the Redhawks' box, Garcia took a touch pass from Brooke Schultz and fired a left-footed strike past a diving Davis for her second score of the season.
