LAS CRUCES, N.M. - NM State head football coach Jerry Kill continued to fill out his coaching staff, adding Tyler Wright to the Aggies' coaching ranks. Wright's role will be as an assistant coach in charge of the team's tight ends.
Stepping into his first coaching role outside of the Lone Star State, Wright's previous stop was in Fort Worth, Texas, where he was an offensive graduate assistant at TCU from 2019 through 2021. Through Wright's three-year run on staff with the Horned Frogs, they amassed 16 victories - three of which came against opponents who were ranked 15th in then nation or higher.
Wright's time at TCU came directly after a two-year (2017-19) stint as the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator at NCAA Division II institution UT Permian Basin. In addition to his on-field duties, Wright was a recruiter for the Falcons' Lone Star Conference program. Wright oversaw the development of Taylor Null while at UT Permian Basin, helping the Falcons' signal-caller establish single-season program record in passing yardage (2,145), touchdowns (16) and completions (176) in 2017.
His run in the city of Odessa, Texas, started in June of 2015 as the wide receivers coach and video coordinator at Odessa Permian High School. With Wright in their corner, the prep program compiled a 25-8 record thanks to a high-octane offense which averaged over 42 points per game.
A 2015 graduate of Tarleton State (kinesiology), Wright suited up for the Texans for four seasons as a wide receiver. In 2013, he helped the then-NCAA Division II squad claim a share of the Lone Star Conference championship. Through his final semester as a student at Tarleton, Wright served as a student intern for the Texans' football team.
