TEMPE, Ariz. - A solid first half defensive showing was not enough for the Aggies (0-1) in their season opener, as Arizona State (2-0) tacked on three second half goals to take a 4-0 victory on Sunday afternoon at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.
The two teams would feel each other out in the first 20 minutes of the match, as the two teams took just one shot each. The Sun Devils would strike first in the 22nd minute, but junior goalkeeper
Makenna Gottschalk kept the Sun Devils in check for the rest of the half recording four total saves in her debut with the Aggies.
The Sun Devils would strike quickly in the second half with a goal in the 40th minute and two more goals in minute 70 and 78.
The Aggies had six different players take shots during the match with junior
Corey Kizer, freshman
Megan Ormson and redshirt junior
Jody Hernandez each recording a shot on goal. The Aggies recorded five saves during the match, four by Gottschalk and one by redshirt senior
Dmitri Fong. The Aggies were able to get into Sun Devil territory quite often which resulted in five corner kicks, but the Aggies were unable to capitalize.
The Aggies will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 11 in El Paso where they will face UTEP (0-2) at 7 p.m.
